Cutting Chai with Bhawana Somaaya - Day 293

Super side effects
28.02.14

Balaji Films-Pritish Nandy Communication produced aur Saket Choudhary likhi directed Shaadi Ke Side Effects 2006 ki Pyaar Ke Side Effects ka sequel hain.

Pyaar Ke Side Effects mein Rahul Bose aur Mallika Sherawat, mohabbat ka izhaar ke baad ki samasyaon se jhunjhte hai.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects mein Farhan Akhtar aur Vidya Balan zindagi mein aayi rukawat – yaane pehle bache ke anubhav se guzarte hain.

Kabhi naa aur kabhi haan, kuch haske aur kuch dar ke, Sid-Trisha, aakhir mein, bache ki zimmedari ke liye taiyaar ho jaate hain!

Nanhi Mili apni kilkariyon aur khilone se purre ghar par kabza kar leti hain.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects gender, matrimony aur parenthood ko lekar naye muddein uthati hain.

Film ka first half spectacular hain, balke main kahungi ki interval ke pehle film mein ek jadu, ek deewangi hain.

Vir Das aur Ram Kapoor thodi der ke liye aate hain aur jee khush kar dete hain.

Problem film ka second half hain, afsos ke kahani aam shadiyon ki tarha bikhar jaati hain aur phir achanak ek khaas shadi ki tarha Arshad Sayed ke dialogues se climax mein sambhal jaati hain!

Director Saket Choudhary hume shaadi ke teen: Ram Kapoor/Farhan Akhtar/Vidya Balan ke drishtikon se parichit karte hain.

Suna hain ke shaadi wo laddo hai jisse khaye wo pachtaye aur na khaye wo bhi pachtaye magar Shaadi Ke Side Effects wo laddoo hain jisse na khayein wo zaroor pachtaye!!

Kyon ki ismein sab ke liye – jawan/buzurg/aurat/mard/akela/shaadi shuda/ bache wale/ bagair bache jode ke liye sandesh hain!

Vidya- Farhan ki chemistry lajawab hain. Vidya lajawab hain aur Bhaag Milkha Bhaag ke baad Farhan Akhtar subhanallh!!

Writer director ko salaam karte hue Shaadi ke Side Effects ko Big Entertainment Ratings milte hain 3.5 stars.

Highway is sublime
21.02.14
Imtiaaz Ali likhi/produced/ directed Highway Veera Tripathi ki kahani hain jiska apni shaadi ke kuch din pehle apharan ho jaata hain!
Apharan karne waale 20 saal ki Veera ke haath paun aur muh baandhkar, usse  kabhi van/ kabhi truck se pathrili, barfeeli sadkon par, ek shehar se doosre shehar raat-din bhagaate hain.
Iss kathin aur lambe safar mein Veera ke mann aur zindagi mein bohat badlav aate hain.
Bharat ke 6 prant -Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh aur Kashmir mein filmayi gayi Highway aap ko srishti ke itne kareeb laati hain jaise…
Suraj ki kirnein aap ko jagati hain…  Paani ke jharne aapko nehlaate hain… aur chand talle, pedon ki lambi shakhayein aapko jhula jhulati hain…
Film ka har frame sundarta ki missal hain. Himachal ki hariyali aur Kashmir ki barfeeli vaadiyaan, cinematographer Anil Mehta ki jitni taarif ki jaye utni kum hain.
Director ne kaha hain ki ye film unhone bagair screenplay ke shoot ki hain –shayad isiliye film ka har lamha aur dialogue itna spontaneous aur sacha hain!
Film ki soch, film ka sandesh aur sabse aage, Alia Bhatt ka unself conscious performance outstanding hain.
Rockstar ke baad Imtiaaz Ali kissi bhi superstar ke saath 200 crore ki film bana sakte thee – unhone ek ubharti kalakar ko chuna.
Wo koi bhi foreign locations mein shoot kar sakte thhe - unhone Bharat desh ko chuna.
Highway ko iss sundar safar ke liye Big Entertainment Ratings milte hain  4 stars.

 Darr @the mall intriguing

MSMMP/Contiloe Films produced aur Pawan Kirpalani likhi directed Darr @the Mall ek naye mall ke udhghatann ki kahani hain.
Construction ke dauran site par aise haadse ho jaate hain jiski wahah se log mall ko bhoot prĂȘt se jod dete hain.
Mall ke board of directors ye galat faimiyaan door karne ke liye ek launch party organize karte hain aur  ye party sab ke liye kayamat ki raat ban jaati hain!
Aadhi raat baad jab saare guests  chale jaate hain – tab board of directors aur unke pariwar locked mall ke andar bhayanak haadse ka shikar bante hain.
Sabse pehle ye kehna zaroori hain ki Darr@ the mall stereotype horror film nahi hain…
Darr @ the mall  shhrapit pariwar ke bare mein nahi hain aur na hi bichde pyaar ki kahani.
Film ke first half mein bhoot nahi – bhoot ka darr hain – isliye first half uneventful hote hue darawna hain!
Iss baar Kirpalani bhoot ko cinematic avatar dete hain aur sound ko  nayi paribhasha.
Shankar Mahadevan ka sangit aur Ganesh Hegde ki choreography mein piroyi, Abhimanyu Singh  ki Darr @ the mall imaginative aur anokhi horror film hain.
Darr @the mall heart patients’ ke liye nahi hain adventurous audience ke liye hain.
Darr @the mall ko Big Entertainment Ratings milte hain 3 stars.

Characters in Search of Author
20.02.14

Sometimes the title of a play/ film/ book is so interesting that is one drawn to it instantly like Luigi Pirandellos written and Trishla Patel directed Six Characters in search of an Author is one such play I will make sure to watch. Starring Benjamin Gilani, Rahil Gilani, Sukant gohil, Trimala Adhikari, Trishla Patel, Kajli Sharma, Asok Deb, Malika Singh, Shashank Dutt the play premiers on 21 February at Tata Theatre NCPA.

About a director is rehearsing for a play with his actors when he is rudely interrupted by six strangers who are apparently looking for an author. The director and the six characters get enmeshed in an argument which seamlessly flows into a play which starts to get enacted in front of the troupe of the actors. This play within a play is a tragic drama full of heightened emotions and even though written centuries ago is relevant even today as it addresses incest, class discrimination, prostitution, failed marriages and innocence lost.

Novelist and poet Luigi Pirandello was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1934 and the highlight of the play that leaves you with different interpretations.

Spiderman for Earth Hour
19.02.14

In a first of its kind partnership, Spider-Man will be the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour, the global movement organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), with a message to inspire individuals to use their power to become Super Heroes for the planet. Andy Ridley, CEO and Co-Founder of Earth Hour, and Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Sony Pictures Entertainment, made the announcement in conjunction with the launch of Earth Hour Blue.
“I’m proud Spider-Man is the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour because he shows we can all be Super Heroes when we realize the power we all have,” says Andrew Garfield, who plays Spider-Man in the upcoming film.  “Earth Hour is a movement that has created massive impact around the world, so imagine what we can do this year with Spider-Man by our side.”
Earth Hour has grown to involve hundreds of millions of people from all walks of life across 7000 cities and towns and 154 countries and territories.  Jamie Foxx who plays the villain Electro in the film said, “Earth Hour isn’t just about lights off; it’s about people across the world coming together throughout the year to join forces to improve the planet.
Expanding on many sustainability efforts over the years, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 became the most eco-friendly tent pole production in the history of Columbia Pictures.  These environmental efforts, on set and off, were supported at every level – from producers, studio executives, and cast and crew and began as soon as the film went into pre-production.
The last word came from Blake, who said they were very proud of the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is entirely carbon-neutral.  We made a commitment to be as eco-conscious as possible during production itself, when we took a special effort to think green and avoid waste; now, completing that process with Earth Hour Blue is a wonderful testament to what we can achieve when we all work together.”

Cine Play
18.02.14

CinePlay is a ‘new genre’ of entertainment, a cinematic experience inspired by a theatrical performance. Meaningful stories that are engaging thought provoking and rooted in reality. For the first time film making techniques are used to create a new viewing experience for the audiences, thus expanding the reach of theatre. It’s an entirely new experience which is why we describe it as a combination of theatre and films so it is CinePlay. CinePlay will exponentially expand the reach of theater by collapsing physical, geographical and economic limitations and at the same time become a platform for Theatre Education, for students and teachers. Its objective is to create an inclusive, self-sustainable platform to benefit all stakeholders, especially the theatre community- a long-term sustainable royalty stream for the theater community. It is the first time a theatre production will combine a 2K picture quality, surround sound and subtitle options.

The Cineplay journey begins with Mahesh Dattani’s Dance Like a Man, a contemporary classic that has had over 500 live performances, and is the longest running English play in India. The new vision brings a galaxy of stars and theatre experts like Nandita Das who has acted in over 30 feature films in ten languages and done three professional plays, Subodh Maskara an entrepreneur who has moved away from the corporate world to explore his passion for the arts. Umesh Gupta, who flirts with many mediums and has more than 1000 hours of content experience as an editor, director and producer...CinePlay premiers on 20.2.14 at Tata Theatre.
