Cutting Chai with Bhawana Somaaya - Day 340

Manhattan to Mumbai
05.5. 2014

Rustle of silk, dance of the peacocks, gold on velvets, flowers and leaves, Swarovski and silver –
AnandG understands the changing moods. He says his dazzling creations for the blushing bride are specially designed to match her persona as she prepares to start a new life. I visited his office to check out his creations and discovered hues and patterns for myriad occasions from red-carpet moments to subdued shimmer for festive days, all beautiful fabrics and embroidery waiting to celebrate life. Over a leisurely cup of tea AnandG, narrated his story, how he began his journey in the mid eighties – from the dim back alleys of New York’s fashion district traveling to the flash bulbs of Manhattan’s 1407 Broadway.
In the following two and a half decades he traversed across Delhi, Gurgaon, Milano, Padova, Bergamo,Brescia, Roma - up-close with fashion designers, technicians, couturiers, -  some average and some true Michelangelo’s – and there was a lot to learn from all. AnandG anand@anandgbridals.com had found his calling.
Global fashion magazines like Colleczioni Moda, Colleczioni Haute Couture, Vogue London,
Fashion-Italy wrote glowing tributes to his label and he was privileged to be featured in the prestigious Italian Magazine Haute Couture. Anand was flattered but the prodigal was restless to return home, in Mumbai, where the dream began.
