It is more than a month that
Sanjay Dutt has been inside the jail and in a few hours from now his second
film will be released that Sanjay will not be there to watch it. His producer
and his director have been issuing statements about how much they miss him and
want to screen the film for Sanjay and his inmates inside the jail. In Zanjeer
Sanjay has done a qawwali song but this is not the first time he will be
singing a qawwali on screen.
Years ago, before he
was launched as a hero in Rocky
by his father Sunil Dutt, Sanjay starred as a child star in Ajanta Arts
1972 starrer Reshma aur Shera where he was a part of a qawwali scene wearing the
bandi –topi the complete
costume. Though the actor has starred in
almost 150 films and done all kinds of roles, he never got another opportunity
to enact a qawwali number 41 years
later in Zanjeer.
Dutt plays Pran saab’s role of Sher Khan in this re-imagined
version of Zanjeer and instead of ‘Yaari hai iman mera…’ sings 'Khochey
pathan ki zubaan…' Director
Lakhia is confident that this is among Sanjay’s most memorable performances.
Lakhia says Priyanka is the new age Jaya Bhaduri and Ram
Charan, the new angry man. He has introduced new characters of Mahie Gill and
Atul Kulkarni to make the film more contemporary.
In 1973 a chain/ Zanjeer altered t destinies of two
actors : Amitabh Bachchan, for whom the film proved the end of failure and Rajesh Khanna, for whom it was
the beginning of the end…Let’s wait and watch whose career is altered this time
round.
