Cutting Chai with Bhawana Somaaya - Day 188

Ganeshchaturthi

10.9.2013, Mumbai

I just love the festivals of India and look forward to the magic that starts Rakshabandhan, then Naag Panchami, followed by Janmashtami, Gokulashtami and Ganesh Chaturti. The elephant God gets ready to come home and all of us getready to receive him. He is the lord of physical creation and he is entrusted the task of letting in only a true seeker. The seniors say that the only way to access the energy of Ganpati is through selflessness because as Yogi Ashwin explains creation is not run on selfishness. The sun gives away heat and light, the rivers distribute water, the wind blows and the earth bears plants and nurtures animals. Nothing is stagnant; nothing is stationary and nothing for the individual self.  Yogi Ashwini explains that turning and twisting or just shirsasan is not yoga. Yoga is a state of mind,it is a change from selfishness to selflessness and that too quietly and naturally. He advises that look for a guru not for physical, mental, financial gains but to intend positive forces in creation.
Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day of the waning moon / krishnapaksha of bhadrapad. It is a powerful day when the energy of the Lord is the most easily accessible and therefore the tradition of bringing the deity home and fulfilling all our dreams.
