Cutting Chai with Bhawana Somaaya - Day 224

Prithvi Festival
04.11.2013, Mumbai

Come November 5 and Prithvi Theatre will celebrate its 35th year of Prithvi Festival. The Prithvi Festival has been part of the Indian Theatrical Calendar, and Mumbai’s Calendar since 1983. The 15 days of art and drama is something all theatre lovers wait to attend. This year will showcase 28 performances of 15 productions inspired and/or adapted from classics and masterpieces. There will be 10 premier shows four of which are first timers at Prithvi and one a revival.

This year has a western classical concert presented by NCPA/Symphony Orchestra of India- the first performance of true Western Classical Quartet Music live and performed in the intimate and amazing space of Prithvi Theatre. The Sundays are blocked for Acoustic Jams followed by Sunday Brunch at Prithvi Café - a unique and rare experience of raw music combining different genres.

This year festival introduces the first series of StageTalk– eight interactive interviews with eminent theatre directors discussing their work, and their journey open to public participation. The endeavor at Prithvi Festival has been to to rejuvenate and share experiences with everyone involved in theatre – on stage, back stage and in the audience. That was Prithviraj Kapoor’s dream and the legacy continues with Shashi,Jennifer, Sanjana and now Kunal Kapoor.
