Cutting Chai with Bhawana Somaaya - Day 163
Jail Diary xviii
05.8.2013, Mumbai
Sanjay wakes up feeling weary. It is almost three months since he has been away from home and even though his wife Manyata and he exchange a letter a day, he misses not seeing his children. Sanjay recalls how he sent a flower and a poem for Manyata on her birthday a few weeks ago. He is not a writer and has never put pen to paper until he came to the prison and Manyata had appreciated his gesture. She sent him something equally precious on his birthday and that was his only support in the dark cell on a desolate day. It has been raining heavily since the past week and the prison smells musty. Rains appear romantic watching from your glass window with fragrant tea. Far away from home and missing your loved one rain has a way of turning melancholic. A familiar pain is returning and Sanjay curls on his mattress and goes to bed, not to sleep. (To be continued) Bhawana Somaaya/ @bhawanasomaaya
