ghazal lovers

There is a story
that once upon a time, long, long ago, when gazal
was not valued and cherished; she was on the verge of suicide.
Then Begum Akhtar, the songstress
with the soulful voice chanced upon the genre and decided to make it her own.
Soon the biggest and the best of
the poets mesmerized by Akhtari bai’s
voice decided to pen poetry to be rendered by the Begum.
Thus began a trend and the gazal on the verge of exile was reborn.
Over the years, many maestros have
rendered evolved thoughts of innumerable writers in their velvet voices and gazal is now a part of our culture and
life.
Uski Batein is a tribute to all
those maestros who filled our life with music and thought. From K.L. Saigal,
C.H. Atma, Begum Akhtar, Mehdi Hassan to Jagjit Singh. In other words, an
evening to remember!
