40 years ago RK Banner released a film called Dharam Karam in which Raj Kapoor’s eldest son, Randhir Kapoor debuted as a director.
Written by Prayag Raj and music by RD Burman Dharam Karam was a super hit and Randhir
Kapoor in demand as a filmmaker.
It was Randhir’s idea to take Rekha as his heroine since they had worked
in Rampur Ka Lakshman and proved a successful pair.
It is said that Raj Kapoor saw early rushes of the film and was so
impressed with Rekha that he asked his son to increase her role.
That was Rekha’s first interaction with Raj Kapoor and over four decades
spanning three genrations she continues to nurture a close bond with the
family.
